Tip: Early morning meets can be chilly. Pack a hoodie, parka, and blanket!

WARM-UP

  • ELIT team stretches start at 7:30am unless otherwise stated by coaches (be at the pool before then).
  • 8 and under swimmers begin warm-up at 8:40am.
  • Your coach will tell you when to enter the pool for general warm-up after stretches.
  • Practice fast flip turns and backstroke count, as every pool is slightly different!

TALK TO YOUR COACH

  • Visit your coach at the ELIT tent before and after every race to discuss preparation and results!
  • You can also go anytime you have a question or concern.
  • If there is a problem, come to your coach to guide you on what to do next.
  • To scratch an event, prior communication and approval from your coach is required.

PREP FOR RACES

  • Know your Event, Heat, and Lane for each race.
  • Use the Meet Mobile app or posted heat sheets to find your event information.
  • You need to determine what time you will swim each race, but do not trust the app to be accurate.
  • Ask your coach about warm-up and warm-down routines.
  • Finish warm-up 5–10 minutes before your race and go behind your racing lane.
  • Stay active and WARM behind the blocks.

PARENTS’ ROLES

  • Cheer for your child and other ELIT swimmers to create a supportive environment!
  • Allow swimmers time and space to prepare and reflect after races - swimming is tough!
  • Bring enough food and water for long meets.
  • Let swimmers talk to their coaches independently to foster a healthy coach-athlete relationship.
  • Be ready to volunteer as a timer. Sign-up sheets are on the ELIT website and open up the week of the meet!
Tip: Meets can last several hours. Pack snacks, drinks, and a chair for comfort!
